Recommended Specifications

From the wide range of specifications, options and choices which is available for the Fujitsu Siemens range of Econel File Servers we have offered those which in our view are essential in order for a file server to be able to perform adequately and then shown a few options which, whilst not absolutely essential, serve to help the system, operating system and programmes perform to their very best ability.

The Minimum Spec shown above would be suitable for a very basic office file server. It offers 160Gb of hard disk storage space which can be added to with extra internal or external hard disks. Included is a SATA RAID 1 controller which allows, with the addition of 1 hard disk, the mirroring of the operating system and data onto a second hard disk for security. The ECC (Error Checking) memory can increased up to a maximum of 8Gb.

The Adequate Spec shown above would be very suitable for a small/medium sized office file server with up to around 12 clients. It offers 2 160Gb hard disks which can be added to with extra internal or external hard disks. Included is a SATA RAID 1 controller which allows the two disks to be mirrored (ie one is always an exact duplicate of the other) for security. The ECC (Error Checking) memory can increased up to a maximum of 8Gb. The internal fax/modem will allow the server to handle network faxes (both sending and receiving) and the extra network card allows firewall software to separate the internally facing part of the network from the external world for even greater security.

The Preferred Spec shown above would be ideal for a small/medium sized office file server with up to around 30 clients. It offers 4 160Gb hard disks which can be added to with external USB2 hard disks if required. Included is a SATA RAID 1 controller which allows the disks to be mirrored (ie two are always exact duplicates of the other two) for security, and the operating system can be kept separate from the data to help with the speed of the network. The ECC (Error Checking) memory can increased up to a maximum of 8Gb. The internal fax/modem will allow the server to handle network faxes (both sending and receiving) and the extra network card allows firewall software to separate the internally facing part of the network from the external world for even greater security.

Retrospect Backup Software
Retrospect Small Business Server Standard Edition is designed for a business with a file server running Windows Small Business Server Standard edition. It provides licenses to protect the server plus networked desktops and notebooks.
It includes Exchange and Proactive Backup agents so that all users email boxes can be securely backed up, along with any laptops which were not connected to the network during the last scheduled backup.
Extra Retrospect licenses can be purchased to protect additional networked file servers.
